The official 40-hour rules

Your school board
For high school students, your guidance office has the final say on what counts toward the 40. Start here.

College and university students
The 40 hours are a high school requirement, though volunteering doesn't stop at graduation. Brock and Niagara College both run their own volunteer programs. We have no affiliation with either school, but the programs are worth knowing about.

Municipal volunteer programs
Several Niagara municipalities run their own volunteer programs and post opportunities we don't always see.

We're not the only place to look. Finding something good matters more than finding it on our site. Most of these take adult volunteers with no hours to log at all.

- Canadian Red Cross Youth programs and emergency response volunteering. (opens in a new tab)
- Niagara Health: Volunteer Patient care, wayfinding, and gift shop roles across the hospital sites. Expect a weekly shift and a one-year commitment. (opens in a new tab)
