olunteer Opportunity: Resident Friend & Companion
Make a Friend. Share a Story. Create a Connection.
Location: Cavendish Manor Retirement Residence, Niagara Falls, Ontario
At Cavendish Manor, we believe that some of life's most meaningful moments come from the simplest things — a shared laugh, a familiar face, a good conversation, or knowing someone genuinely looks forward to seeing you.
We are looking for caring, compassionate individuals who would love to become a Resident Friend to one or two members of our Cavendish community.
This isn't about keeping someone busy or simply filling time. It's about building a genuine friendship, getting to know someone as a person, and creating a connection that brings joy and meaning to both lives.
What Might Your Friendship Look Like?
Every friendship is unique and will grow naturally around shared interests, personalities, and experiences.
You might enjoy:
Sharing stories, memories, and life experiences.
Writing letters, cards, or little notes to one another.
Going for walks or enjoying time outdoors together.
Sitting down for coffee, tea, and a good conversation.
Sharing hobbies, music, books, or common interests.
Celebrating special moments and simply enjoying each other's company.
Most importantly, let the resident lead the relationship. Discover what brings them joy, what matters to them, and how they would like to spend time together.
Who Are We Looking For?
You don't need special skills or experience. We are looking for people who are kind, patient, reliable, good listeners, and genuinely interested in getting to know others.
We welcome volunteers of different ages, backgrounds, and life experiences who believe that friendship has no age limit.
Your Commitment
We hope to build lasting, meaningful friendships through regular visits, with scheduling that works for both you and your resident friend.
Consistency matters because relationships grow through trust, familiarity, and time together.
Why Volunteer With Us?
Because friendship is a two-way gift.
Our residents have incredible stories, wisdom, humour, and experiences to share. You may arrive thinking you're giving your time, but you might leave having gained a wonderful new friend.
At Cavendish Manor, you're not just volunteering. You're becoming part of someone's story — and inviting them to become part of yours.
Come as you are. Bring your kindness, your curiosity, and a little of your time. We'll help you find a connection worth sharing.

Your hours don't get logged here
If you're a high school student working on your 40, that part goes through your school. Once you've volunteered, get your supervisor to sign off, then file the hours wherever your school collects them so guidance can approve them. At a lot of Ontario schools that means Hour Republic.
Cavendish Manor Retirement Residence has confirmed this role meets Ontario's rules: unpaid, outside class time, and nothing on the province's list of activities that can't count. NVO doesn't approve hours. Your school does, so check with your guidance office before you start if you're not sure an activity counts. How the 40 hours work
Keep the details for later
If you're a high school student handing in hours, your school will want to know who you volunteered with and how to reach your supervisor. Save that now so you aren't digging for it in June.

Snow Buddies is a fall prevention measure associated with our Safety at Home program. Our pool of Snow Buddies volunteers oversees the removal of snow from our client’s porch, stairs, walkway and driveway, allowing our clients to safely exit and enter their home. The program runs through the later fall months and winter months of the year. Volunteers do not require transportation as volunteers are matched with clients that live close by their area. Snow shovels are not required as they will be provided for the volunteer by the client. All volunteers need will be some winter boots, a coat, hat, mitts, gloves and anything else to help have them dressed for the cold weather! Help keep our community safe by becoming a snow buddy today!
